MY RESEARCH

My research deals with the assessment of environmental factors, which influence the calcification and morphology of planktonic Foraminifera. I try to investigate the occurrence of biometric deviations that might be indicative of particular environmental protrusions, and how they are linked to foraminiferal shell geochemistry. Such knowledge can help to facilitate our understanding of the evolution of morphology (including the resolution of analogy), and can also help to develop or enhance palaeoenvironmental proxies.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

  • Foraminiferal shell calcification patterns and their link to environmental conditions
  • The connection between shell calcification and geochemical composition of the shell
  • Morphological deviations of planktonic foraminiferal shells and their link to environmental stressors
  • Ontogenetic (including developmental stability) and phylogenetic pathways of foraminiferal shell biometry and their evolutionary relevance

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Foraminiferal shell biometry in the North Atlantic
