Organ & Tissue Donation

In connection with the National Organ Donation Day, the SSE partners with the HUG to offer information stands — an opportunity to learn more and express your wishes. A single organ donor can save the lives of up to 7 people. As of the end of the third quarter of 2022, 1,436 people were waiting for at least one organ.

Anyone can donate their organs. There are very few contraindications and no age limit, either minimum or maximum. The donor's state of health is the decisive factor in any organ retrieval decision. Before any retrieval, the condition and functioning of each organ is assessed individually.

Switzerland now operates under a system of presumed consent. Those who oppose donation can register their refusal in an official registry. Families are always consulted. You can express your wishes via a donor card or advance directives.
