Game Over - AfficheMaking Sense of Eschatology

October 22-24, 2015 | University of Geneva

Free entry

Our Western understanding of history and time, even in its most secularized forms, remains deeply indebted to the Jewish and Christian traditions. It presupposes a linear dynamic, anchored in an absolute origin, moving toward an ultimate horizon. Humanity finds its place between these two limits.

Questions pertaining to eschatology – literally: speaking about the end – are numerous and complex. Which 'end' are we talking about? The 'end' of each individual human being at his/her death, or the 'end' of the world, as in the apocalyptic tradition? Does a consideration of the 'end' turn us away from the present reality, or does it send us back to it? Or, to put the question differently: which end is awaiting us? Is it awaiting us, or is it coming to us?

With this interdisciplinary conference, the Faculty of theology of the University of Geneva aims to raise anew the question of the meaning of eschatology.

The entrance is free. Your registration will allow us to better organize the conference.
