Computer infrastructure

The computer infrastructure is the following :

  • Workshop rooms with various GIS software already installed (Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Unimail). For more information contact thierry.froidevaux(at)
  • Geospatial data servers distributing Esri and GeoServer / GeoNetwork technology. These servers are stored on virtual machines and are serving vector and raster databases as well as web services. To connect to these data and services contact pierre.lacroix(at)

Geospatial data and web servers is an ArcSDE / PostgreSQL / OpenSUSE server distributing various databases. It can be accessed from the INTRANET:

  • ge is the database containing more than 700 layers produced by the Système d’information du territoire genevois (SITG) and its partners
  • ch is the database containing Swiss data (swisstopo, Geostat, OFEV, OFS)
  • fr is the database containing data produced by the Institut Géographique National (IGN). It serves the BD Topo, BD Parcellaire and BD Adresses on 3 departments (Ain, Haute-Savoie and Jura) plus GeoFLA on the whole of France

It is also possible to access databases maintained by UNEP-GRID on Europe and World: administrative boundaries, hydrography, land cover, population density, protected areas, digital elevation model, climate data etc. is an ArcGIS Server / Windows distributing cartographic and image services.
