We consider a convex optimization problem on linearly constrained cones in Euclidean Jordan algebras. A smooth, damped Newton algorithm is proposed, together with an explicit step-size that guarantees quadratic convergence. An application to optimization of finger forces for grasping problems in robotics is explained. This covers recent joint work with J. Moore, S. Ricardo and S. Yoshizawa.
