The contaminated regions are involved in gigantic political, legal, demographic, social and economic upsets following the collapse of the USSR. Therefore the concerned populations have to live through a world in dramatic metamorphosis. Food's and location's contamination interfere with various difficulties in a complex way. Growing mortality rate and birth defects, migrations trends spreading out the communities are not only linked with Chernobyl consequences. The destabilisation of the economy combined with the risk of living in contaminated areas led to increased social unrest.


Among the gathered sample of information programs, different approaches have been identified, but information, communication or education was only a minor part of each of them, which in priority focused on medical research, international norms assessment, humanitarian and technical assistance, psycho-social rehabilitation, emergencies management or public opinion monitoring. To sum up, a global information deficiency was obvious, not only in link with a lack of commitment, but even a hindrance from authorities during the post-accidental period.

Among positive examples, psycho social rehabilitation activities and health assistance providing immediate feedback to the person checked seems to meet publics expectancy.
