Abstract:

The talk will cover two fibered optical pulse sources: the mode-locked fiber laser and the cavity-free pulse train generation at several tens of GHz repetition rates. Both sources have gain more attention in the past decades. The first is an easy to setup source of ultrashort pulse train for many applications (material processing, medicine and spectroscopy) and has a very interesting versatility in terms of pulsed dynamics for fundamental research. I’ll explain a possibility we tested to automatically explore the wide range of pulsed regimes reachable from such source. The second remains a crucial step for optical telecommunications, optical sampling or component testing applications. I’ll present our recent research to get high quality pulse trains from temporal and spectral phase shaping of an optical continuous wave.
