This project, based in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Geneva, revisits the Chaucer and Shakespeare scholarship of England's first woman professor of English literature, Caroline Spurgeon (1869-1942). Uniting digital, archival, and literary research methodologies, the project undertakes a critical investigation into ways of studying literature in the early twentieth century and in our own time.

This research is generously funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (grant no. 225925).
