The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI) continuously monitor the changing context of research and innovation in Switzerland. They found that some interesting projects could be lost when they fell between the types of encouragement given by these two institutions. In the context of the 2017-2020 FRI message, the SNSF and CTI were commissioned by the Federal Council - on their own initiative - to jointly develop the Bridge Special Program. It corresponds to the general objective of the Confederation to include in a more global approach the whole chain of value creation: from basic research to market-oriented innovation, via the application. BRIDGE includes two instruments of encouragement that are aimed directly at researchers.
