Secondary special education is accomplished in technical schools, colleges and other secondary special educational institutions.
In 1996/97 in the Republic there were 146 educational institutions with 123700 students in them, including 98600 people at daily department, 1300 at the evening one, 23800 at the correspondence courses. All secondary special educational institutions refer to 15 ministries and departments.
In secondary special educational institutions that belong to the Ministry of Education, in 1996/97 school years there were prepared 57500 specialists of middle link. The teaching itself of the primary school teachers, instructors and other pedagogical staff of middle link is accomplished in 23 pedagogical schools and colleges. In 1997 they prepared 4344 teachers, including 286 people÷physical education and sport, 238÷musical education, 27÷art and technical drawing, 148÷Belarussian language and literature, 97÷foreign languages, 234÷professional instructing, 255÷handicraft, 1119÷pre-school education, 1940÷primary school teaching.
Agricultural colleges prepared 4768 specialists of agricultural profile, including agro-chemistry÷23 people, production, storing and processing of goods÷103, agronomy÷903, plant growing÷103, zoo-veterinary÷61, veterinary÷688, bee-keeping÷73, agriculture mechanization÷1334, electrification and automation of agriculture÷536, mechanization of land reclamation works÷161, land reclamation÷84.
