Mai ELBASSIOUNY

I am a writer and researcher with a passion for science, medicine, and technology. I began my academic journey at Ain Shams Medical School in Cairo but transferred to Computer Science after two years. Since obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree, I have always had the desire to return to academia, but only managed to do so many years later. In the interim, I mainly worked as a medical writer.

I completed my Master’s Degree in Neuroscience at the University of Geneva in 2021, under the supervision of Prof. David Rudrauf and Prof. Tobias Brosch. As part of my master’s research, I looked at how the level of immersion in a virtual reality scenario of the future of climate change might influence individuals’ beliefs about the environment.

I happily became a Ph.D. researcher in 2022, under the supervision of Prof. Ulrike Rimmele in the Emotion and Memory lab and Prof. Antje Horsch at CHUV, on a topic dear to my heart: PTSD. More specifically, we are utilizing the Trauma Film Paradigm to test how simple visuospatial interventions during memory reconsolidation affect intrusive memories and the subjective feelings of these memories.
