Abstract

(Presentation in English with simultaneous translation into French, June 23 at 15:45)

“Parenting programmes: a systemic framework”

Parenting programmes are delivered in many countries to help parents and their child.  They highlight the importance of attending to emotional, psychological and social development, and prevent and reduce potential behavioural and emotional problems in young children. They are based on developmental theory to help both parents and children develop protective factors and build strong relationships. Parenting programmes are supported by strong evidence-based research.

The Tavistock Clinic has delivered parenting programmes for over 10 years. Over this period, a model of integrating systemic ideas to existing manualized programmes has been developed by a group of psychologists and family therapists.

This presentation will demonstrate how it is possible to run an evidence-based parenting programme within a systemic framework and will illustrate that both approaches can be complementary.
