Alexis Vahlas

Dr. Alexis Vahlas is mainly an academic from the University of Strasbourg (MCF HDR) after a PhD in International Law at the University Paris II, a distinction from the national Concours Général of Political Science and a prize for excellence at the University of Montreal. He is currently Director of the Master level Diploma European Security and International Stability (SESI) at the University of Strasbourg.

He also teaches at ENA, the French Elite School for civil servants (Ecole Nationale d’Administration), especially to foreign diplomats from Brazil to Algeria or North Korea.


As a practitioner, he was Chief Political Advisor for the NATO Joint Force Command Naples, dealing between 2006 and 2010 with crisis in the Balkans, Iraq, Somalia and the Mediterranean Sea. He also contributed to many expertise missions such as EU twining programmes, OSCE election observation missions and Council of Europe's Schools of Political Studies. He is at present political advisor (Polad) to the French Command for Joint Operations (CPOIA).


Alexis Vahlas likes to travel the world by foot (hiking in many mountain ranges), ski (ski touring in Europe) or on a bicycle (bike trips Strasbourg to Saint-Petersburg, Strasbourg to Tehran, etc.).
