Charles Heller

Charles Heller is a researcher and filmmaker whose work has a long-standing focus on the politics of migration within and at the borders of Europe. In 2011, co-founded the Forensic Oceanography research project that critically investigates the lethal effects of the militarized border regime and the politics of migration in the Mediterranean Sea, and in 2012 he co-founded WatchTheMed platform.

In 2015, he completed a Ph.D. in Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he continues to be affiliated as a research fellow. He is currently based in Cairo, conducting a postdoctoral research supported by the Swiss National Fund (SNF) at the Centre for Migration and Refugee Studies, American University, Cairo and the Centre d’Etudes et de Documentation Economiques, Juridiques et Sociales, Cairo.
