The scientific committee of 100 Years of Conference Interpreting: Looking Back and Looking Forward! invites academics, researchers, trainers as well as practitioners, policy makers and other stakeholders to send abstracts according to the given format. In line with the conference theme, we encourage submissions to reflect on the past and present, before projecting likely future developments and scenarios. Contributions may be conceptual, theoretical or empirical and should address one of the three conference themes:


Conference interpreting practice

What have been the most noteworthy changes in the profession and what is yet to come?
How have working conditions evolved and where will this evolution lead?
What has been the main appeal of the profession and how is that going to change?


Conference interpreting research

What have been the most groundbreaking research findings and what remains unknown?
What methods have generated research breakthroughs and which look most promising?
What theories have been falsified and which have stood the test of time?


Conference interpreter training

What have been the most successful training approaches and what will be needed in future?
Where have training methods adapted to new needs and where are they lagging behind?
What developments have influenced training and what will be the next big challenge?


Abstracts must be submitted by 20 April 2019 (new extended deadline) using the online submission platform. Importantly, all paper presentations will be given as Pecha Kucha 20x20 (for more information, including examples, see http://www.pechakucha.org.) and all presenters are expected to submit a complementary poster for extensive informal Q&A. As simultaneous interpretation will be provided at the event, we encourage submissions in English, French and Spanish.

Once the submission window opens, you’ll be expected to provide the following information:

Title: Between 5 and 25 words
Abstract: Between 200 and 300 words
Please include the following information about your study/project:
 
  • What was the motivation (background)?
  • What was the objective (aim)?
  • What was the question (research question/hypothesis)?
  • How did you answer it (design/method)?
  • What is your answer (results/discussion/conclusion)?
