Oyewale Tomori, D.V.M., PhD, FAS., FCVSN., FRCPath (UK)., FASTMH, NNOM, Pr. Dr. Professor of Virology, Redeemer’s University, Nigeria

Dr. Tomori was Vice-Chancellor at the Redeemer’s University, Nigeria. He received in 1981, US DHHS Public Health Service Certificate for contribution to Lassa Fever Research, and in 2002 the Nigeria National Order of Merit (NNOM), the country’s highest award for academic, intellectual attainment and national development. He was the Head of the Department of Virology at the University of Ibadan, leading research efforts that investigated viral infections. He became a Professor of Virology at the University of Ibadan in 1981.

He was appointed the Regional Virologist for the WHO African Region, based in Harare, Zimbabwe.

During the ten-year tenure, he set up the African Regional Polio Laboratory Network, comprising of 16 laboratories, providing diagnostic support to the global polio eradication initiative. Professor Tomori serves on several national and international advisory bodies including the WHO.
