eScriptorium/FoNDUE

FoNDUE

eScriptorium is an open-source platform specifically designed for the transcription, annotation, and analysis of handwritten and printed documents using Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technologies.

Developed primarily for researchers in the digital humanities, eScriptorium integrates advanced machine learning models to automate the transcription process, while also providing tools for manual correction and enrichment of textual data.

The platform supports collaborative workflows, allowing teams to work together on large-scale digitization projects, and is particularly valued for its ability to handle historical manuscripts, archives, and other complex textual sources. eScriptorium is widely used in libraries, archives, and academic institutions for preserving and making accessible cultural heritage materials.

The FoNDUE project of the Faculty of Humanities runs an eScriptorium instance for swiss institutional researchers.
