Andres Decormis Leon joined the Energy Efficiency group at the Institute for Environmental Sciences and the Forel Institute at University of Geneva as an external PhD student as of November 2025. He is a PhD student co-supervised by Empa's Urban Energy Systems Lab, based in Zürich. His research focuses on the modelling and optimization of integrated district heating & cooling systems, as part of the DeCarbCH research project which is funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy’s “SWEET” Programme.

Prior to this, Andres obtained his Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from TU Delft and later completed his Master's degree in Energy Science & Technology at ETH Zurich. His Master's thesis focused on waste heat recovery systems from hydrogen technologies in energy communities. Prior to his Ph.D., he worked in energy efficiency related projects at ABB Motion.
