Mostafa Babaei  joined the Energy Efficiency group of the Institute of Environmental Sciences (ISE) at the University of Geneva (UNIGE) as a research assistant and Ph.D. student in August 2022. His Ph.D. research project is a part of the "Swiss energy research for the energy transition" (SWEET) project on "DeCarbonisation of Cooling and Heating" (DeCarbCH). His research topic mainly focuses on the energy efficiency improvement of the Swiss industry sector, considering technical and economic approaches.

Before joining ISE, he obtained his bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering from K.N. Toosi University of Technology (Iran). His B.Sc. thesis was on quantifying the effect of nanoparticles addition to a hybrid refrigeration system. Afterward, he completed his master's at the same university in the field of Energy system engineering. During this program, he investigated energy-related topics (e.g., renewables, energy storage systems, etc.). In his M.Sc. thesis he modelled a multigeneration plant utilizing a Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) system.
