I am a Ph.D. candidate and research assistant at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (ISE), University of Geneva (UNIGE), working within the SWEET DeCarbCH project since August 2022. My research focuses on industrial energy efficiency, heat recovery, and process electrification using high temperature heat pumps for steam generation and sector level decarbonization.
I hold a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.Sc. in Energy Systems Engineering from K.N. Toosi University of Technology in Iran. My previous research covered refrigeration systems, energy storage, and thermodynamic modeling, including the development of a multigeneration plant using Liquid/Compressed Air Energy Storage technologies, and resulted in several peer reviewed publications from that period.
I am currently developing ASTRA, an AI based superstructure framework that supports the automated design of high temperature heat pump systems. ASTRA integrates Carnot based thermodynamic screening, data driven compressor behavior, and evolutionary optimization to identify optimal configurations, temperature levels, and placement under varying energy and policy conditions. My work applies these methods across Swiss industrial sectors including paper, dairy, chocolate, and meat processing, among others, combining physics-based modeling with machine learning components based on a grey box modeling approach to address real cycle limitations and support advanced electrification strategies.
