CUAE Agenda: No Appeal by the University of Geneva

Version française

The 2024–2025 CUAE agenda contained a reminder of the PFLP’s triple aircraft hijacking as well as an illustration featuring the slogan “From the river to the sea.” The Rectorate of the University of Geneva had opposed its distribution within university buildings, considering that such content was liable to offend and create divisions within the university community. This restriction on distribution was lifted after the addition of a text providing better contextualisation.

In its judgment of 24 June 2025, the Administrative Chamber of the Court of Justice ruled that the content of this agenda did not breach the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct binding upon all members of the community. In a spirit of conciliation and dialogue, the Rectorate has decided not to appeal this ruling before the Federal Supreme Court.

The Rectorate nevertheless wishes to take this opportunity to reaffirm the importance of its duty of care towards each member of the community, and its determination to assume this responsibility fully. The University upholds the values set out in its Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, in particular respect for the individual and the possibility of confronting differing viewpoints in a spirit of collegiality and responsibility.
These principles are not mere administrative rules: they form the foundation that enables every member of the university community to work, study and debate together.
