Version 2.0

Released 18 November 2020

Yareta 2.0 marks a major turning point in the approach to using the new user portal. For Yareta 2.0, we have mainly oriented the developments towards more intuitiveness and a better ergonomics aiming at improving the autonomy of researchers.

  • Complete overhaul of the web portal | NEW | 
    Considerable work in web design has been done to improve the graphic identity of the interface and the interactivity of the portal with the aim of making it "user-friendly" (UX - user experience).

  • Implementation of guided tours in the portal | NEW 
    Guided tours - offered in the form of tutorials - help familiarize you with the portal and its use.

  • Migration of the portal to the Angular framework | NEW | 
    Angular technology offers more performance and responsiveness to different media: desktop/tablet/mobile mode.

  • Integration of custom graphic elements | NEW 
    Customized addition of graphics, such as logos, avatars and thumbnails, improves the portal's user-friendliness and the readability of the content.

  • Preview of data file contents | NEW | 
    The user can easily visualize the images, text content or 3D chemical molecules contained in the archive.

  • Implementation of a search module by category | NEW | 
    This information retrieval technique greatly facilitates and optimizes the efficiency of searching data archives using filters.

  • Metric Display | NEW | 
    The number of views and downloads of the archive is indicated. The user can also rate the quality and usefulness of the archive.

  • Integration of the DataTag model for sensitive data | NEW 
    The DataTag model is used to indicate the level of sensitivity of the data contained in the archive.

  • Ability to manage access permissions (ACL- Access Control List) | NEW 
    The archive manager can manage access to archives in "closed" or "restricted" mode for users.

    As a result of feedback from users, many improvements, particularly on the display and access to information, have been made to facilitate the use of the portal.


 

Version 1.11

  • Implementation of INFO and REQUEST type notifications | NEW |
    These additional notifications inform the user about the results of certain automatic functions and facilitate access requests via the portal. 

  • Implementation of the archive disposal process | NEW |
    The disposal process (General Policies – removal) determines the fate of the archive at the end of its retention period: 1. Retention period extension; or 2. disposal of the data and preservation of the metadata as a "tombstone".   

  • PREMIS metadata indexing | IMPROVEMENT |
    PREMIS (Data Dictionary for Preservation Metadata) is an international standard for the long-term use of digital objects.

Version 1.10

  • Assigning a default license to the Organizational Unit | NEW |
    This feature allows the automatic assignment of a specific license (e.g. CC BY) to all datasets (archives) while leaving the users free to modify it for each of their archives.

  • Displaying the number of files for each archive | NEW |
    Users can more easily know the number of files that make up their archives.

  • Assigning research areas | IMPROVEMENT |
    Two reference lists of research areas are available: Re3Data subjects &  Research areas and disciplines from SNSF; the sources are mentioned with each entity.

  • Support for the latest version of the DataCite Metadata Shema | UPDATE |
    Yareta now fully supports version 4.3 of the DataCite Metadata Schema published in August 2019.

  • Support for the latest version of BagIT | UPDATE |
    Yareta now supports version 1.10 of BagIT which allows to prioritize files when archiving them.

  • Automatic review of data file formats and names | NEW |
    This new feature tells users which files, if any, are automatically excluded from the archive (e.g. system files) or require manual validation (e.g. file names containing "old").

  • Assigning research areas | NEW |
    This new feature allows users to assign one or more research areas from reference nomenclatures (e.g. SNSF) to their preservation space.

  • Assigning keywords | NEW |
    This new feature allows users to freely assign keywords to their data archive or preservation space.

  • Adding custom metadata | NEW |
    This new feature allows users to define additional metadata in a format adapted to their research data (e.g. JSON, XML).

  • Viewing contributors | NEW |
    This new feature allows anyone connected to the Yareta portal to view the list of Yareta contributors (archive authors).
