Continuing education in Biobanking

Module 1 of the CAS in Biobanking provides foundational training in biobanking, establishing a common understanding among stakeholders such as PhDs, physicians, clinical researchers, ethics committees, and patient organizations (Beginner level).

Overview

Objectives

  • Provide a comprehensive overview of biobanking
  • Identify why biobanking is important and what the specific ethical, legal, and quality requirements are when handling samples.

Audience

Not only professionals such as doctors, clinical or fundamental researchers, but also members of ethics committees, patient associations, politicians, and society in general interested in the field

Learning outcomes

  • Understand and communicate the importance of biobanks to the scientific community and society 
  • List the prime functions of a biobank 
  • Identify and define a biobank according to its type and specificities (function, type of sample processed) 
  • Position yourselves in the biobanking networks, understanding their added value 
  • Detail the essential elements of biobank governance

  • Recognise the importance of biobanks in improving research quality
  • Understand the different types of biobanks and be aware of the main biobanking networks
  • Master the ethical and legal framework relevant to biobanking
  • Integrate the governance requirements for the implementation of a biobank

Cancellation Policy
