Short course Addressing Sexual Violence in Conflict and Emergency Settings 2022

The overall objective of this executive short course is to provide humanitarian mid-level and senior managers the knowledge, competencies and skills required to conceive and operationalize a multidisciplinary approach to prevention and response of sexual violence in conflict and emergency settings.

This course takes place twice a year: 2 March - 27 April 2022 and 14 September - 9 November 2022 The online course is organized into 8 modules that will run for 8 weeks. Each week participants have to connect for a 2-hour interactive webinar with experts, and complete readings, written assignments and engage in discussions in small groups. Online sessions on Zoom will take place every Wednesday 3-5 pm CET

Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Comprehend the scale of sexual violence in humanitarian settings and the barriers faced by survivors to accessing essential services.
• Conceive safe and ethical multi-sectoral interventions centred on victims/survivors’ rights, needs and wishes and competent to respond to the needs of different groups of survivors.
• Deepen understanding of sexual violence, its root causes and contributing factors, and its impacts on individuals and communities.

Audience

Mid-level and senior humanitarian manager currently working directly with victims/survivors of sexual violence, or providing technical advice to or supervision of such programmes
Other participant with relevant experience and expertise may be accepted if space is available
Staff of MSF and ICRC may join for a reduced rate and are asked to apply through their institutional educational programmes

The overall objective of the course is to provide humanitarian mid-level and senior managers the knowledge, competencies and skills required to conceive and operationalise a multidisciplinary approach to prevention and response of sexual violence in conflict and emergency settings. The course is delivered in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Médecins sans Frontières (MSF), Refugee Law Project, UNHCR, and independent human rights experts.

Admission criteria

Admission requirements:

  1. a university qualification (bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  2. at least three years of relevant professional experience;
  3. excellent command of English;
  4. motivation working in the humanitarian sector.
