4EU+ Joins Forces with UNIGE and the Geneva Health Forum for Global Health Dialogue

The University of Geneva was proud to have the 4EU+ Alliance as a key contributor to the 2025 Geneva Health Forum, held from 20 to 21 May. This collaboration brought together representatives from the Alliance, international organizations, and global health actors for a series of strategic meetings and public events, reinforcing the role of academic institutions in shaping global health conditions.

A Vision Initiated Within 4EU+ and UNIGE

The initiative was proposed by Dr. Eric Comte, Director of the Geneva Health Forum, a member of UNIGE’s Institute of Global Health, and part of the 4EU+ Flagship 1 community. His vision: to mobilize the Alliance’s global academic expertise in service of broader societal challenges, particularly in the health sector.

Day 1: Strengthening Ties with WHO and The Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers

On the morning of 20 May, members of the 4EU+ Alliance — including General Secretary Elena Del Giorgio, Flagship 1 leaders, and local office staff — met with Dr. Santino Severoni, Director of the Department of Health and Migration of the World Health Organization (WHO) . These discussions focused on the making of a collaborative framework to support future joint initiatives.

Later that afternoon, a closed session was held with the Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers, a North American network dedicated to improving healthcare for refugees. The conversation laid the foundation for potential collaborations to enhance the well-being of displaced populations.

Day 2: Public symposium - “Changing the Story: Collaboration & Solutions for Migrant Health”

On 21 May, the Forum opened its doors to the public for the symposium “Changing the Story: Collaboration & Solutions for Migrant Health.” Among the panel of international experts, Prof. Khaled Ismail (Charles University in Prague) and Prof. Karl Blanchet (Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies) shared their insights into how migration — often framed as a challenge — can be a catalyst for strengthening healthcare systems. The session sparked dynamic exchanges between academics, healthcare experts, and the public.

A Step Forward for Dignity-Based Global Health

These events were made possible through the support of the 4EU+ Alliance. By connecting universities, international organizations, and the public, this initiative contributes to building a dignity-based global health ecosystem — one that aims to leave no one behind.
