Biosafety level (BSL) 3 Laboratory
Manipulation of class 3 pathogens requires strict safety measures to prevent accidental release into the environment and infection of users.
The Biosafety level 3 (BSL3) cell culture laboratory allows the safe handling of air and blood borne organisms in cell culture.
The laboratory is constantly monitored by alarms and maintains a constant underpressure.
The laboratory supports research projects authorized by Ecogen and the facility is accessible to internal users (University of Geneva and HUG), but also to external users (industry).

- Ensure researcher safety from infection and prevent environmental or public exposure to pathogens.
- Provide specialized training for safe work with class 3 pathogens in confined environments for new users and offer guidance on experimental design
- Provide supports for Ecogen authorization applications and establish risk assessments for projects involving new BSL3 pathogens
- Propose subcontracting services for specific projects
