Geneva Antibody Facility

The Geneva Antibody Facility allows the academic community to gain access to recombinant antibodies. Recombinant antibodies are essential reagents to ensure experimental reproducibility. Their use also reduces the need to use animals in research laboratories.

The facility created the ABCD (AntiBodies Chemically Defined) database, the only large-scale database of sequenced antibodies with identified targets. The database is a manually curated depository, fed with published sequences, and where scientists can deposit their antibodies. The database is linked to the Uniprot database. In December 2024 more than 30’000 antibodies were listed in the ABCD database.

The facility also hosts the journal Antibody Reports, an open-access online journal dedicated to the experimental validation of recombinant antibodies. AbR is published by the Library of the University of Geneva. Its open access policies have been validated and indexed in the SHERPA/RoMEO database, as well as in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), a leading directory that ensures compliance with open-access best practices and standards. We are now preparing AbR application to be included in PubMed. Since its creation in November 2018, AbR has published more than 170 articles.

Services

The Geneva Antibody Facility offers an antibody discovery service against any type of antigen (selection of antibodies by phage display in 2 formats: VHH or scFv).

We produce and deliver any antibody of known sequence in a recombinant format via our in-house spinoff structure ABCD Antibodies.

In 2024 we selected antibodies against 27 new targets, and delivered 251 antibodies to 101 laboratories in and out of the University of Geneva.
