Protein Biochemistry Platform

The main activities of the Protein Biochemistry Platform involve the production of recombinant proteins and analysis of protein dynamics in solution to identify ligand binding site by HDX-MS.

The following services are proposed:

  • Expression and purification of recombinant proteins produced in bacteria and insect cells. Proteins can be used for many applications, including in vitro activity assays, structural studies, antibody generation, etc...
  • Study of protein dynamics and identification of ligand binding sites using Hydrogen/Deuterium-exchange coupled to Mass Spectrometry (HDX-MS)
  • Training of scientists on protein expression and purification using multiple chromatography methods
  • Access to instruments, including a Microfluidizer for cell lysis, several AKTA purification systems for chromatography and general equipment for protein purification
  • Access to a super-computer to run AlphaFold structure predictions
  • Consulting regarding protein purification strategies, analysis of protein structure with PyMol or identification of ligand-binding sites
  • Organisation of a teaching module within the PhD school of life sciences about protein production and characterisation

Equipment

  • Microfluidizer
  • Shaking incubators (37 °C)
  • Shaking incubator (27 °C)
  • AKTA go (22 °C)
  • AKTA pure (4 °C)
  • AKTA purifier (4 °C)
  • HDX-MS analysis setup

Services

  • Protein production in E. coli
  • Protein production in insect cells
