Professor Diego Kuonen has been elected to the Label Expert Committee, a highly qualified, interdisciplinary collaboration which brings together representatives from the private and public sectors, as well as academia, civil society organizations and international institutions to further develop and improve the Digital Trust Label.

As digitalization accelerates, issues of opaqueness, data breaches, and discriminatory algorithmic systems have led to an increase in mistrust of digital services. To address this, in January 2022, the Swiss Digital Initiative launched the Digital Trust Label, the world's first label for digital responsibility.

The Label indicates to consumers the trustworthiness of a digital service, such as a website or an app, in a clear, visual, and non-technical language. Users can expect more transparency and information, reduced complexity, and empowered decision-making. Digital services are audited, based on 35 criteria along four dimensions: security, data protection, reliability, and fair user interaction.

Since digital technologies evolve quickly, the Digital Trust Label is an ongoing and collaborative effort to build consumer confidence and strengthen trust in a digital service through increased understanding and transparency. The Label Expert Committee meets regularly to collect feedback and draft recommendations for possible adjustments and improvements to the Label.
