From First Steps to Strong Momentum: 4EU+ at UNIGE Since 2022

Since joining the 4EU+ Alliance in 2022, the University of Geneva has steadily built new opportunities for mobility, collaboration, and project development across its academic community. Starting from the ground up, these initiatives have not only taken root but are now showing clear and sustained growth.

Mobility on the rise

The introduction of new mobility formats has enabled a growing number of staff and students to engage internationally:

  • 114 administrative and academic staff members have participated in short-term outbound mobility
  • 107 students have taken part in short-term outbound mobility programmes
  • 76 students have benefited from virtual mobility opportunities

These figures reflect entirely new mobility schemes introduced through the Alliance, with participation increasing year after year—an encouraging sign of their relevance and uptake within the UNIGE community.

Expanding project engagement

Beyond mobility, involvement in collaborative projects has also grown significantly:

  • 81 projects launched in total
    • 44 research projects
    • 34 teaching projects
    • 3 hybrid research and teaching projects

At the same time, the Alliance’s internal funding instrument, SEED4EU+, has seen a marked improvement in success rates:

  • Overall success rate increased from 41% in 2023 to 57.14% in 2025
  • For projects led by UNIGE principal investigators, success rose from 33% to 80% over the same period

This sharp increase is closely linked to the targeted and personalised support provided by the UNIGE Local Office, which has helped applicants strengthen proposals and navigate the submission process more effectively.

A trajectory of growth

Taken together, these figures illustrate a dynamic trajectory: from the initial rollout of new formats and tools to a maturing ecosystem of mobility and collaboration. As participation continues to grow, the Alliance is becoming an increasingly embedded and strategic component of UNIGE’s academic environment.
