During the voting session held on November 22, 2023, and after consultation with the Strategic Orientation Council, the Assembly of the University designated Professor Audrey Leuba to the Rector position at the University of Geneva. This designation is subject to approval by the Geneva State Council, in accordance with the University Act, for a renewable four-year term. The new Rector is due to take office on 1 April 2024 at the latest.

Professor Leuba, the current Dean of the Faculty of Law, built her academic career in Switzerland and the United States. Her extensive management experience has given her an excellent understanding of political contingencies both in Geneva and at federal level. She has demonstrated a remarkable capacity for dialogue throughout the designation process and possesses the qualities necessary for the position of Rector. She has an in-depth knowledge of the University’s specific issues, particularly the reforms needed in human resources and the improvement of students' study conditions. In her Faculty, she has put collegial decision-making processes in place, bringing solutions to complex management problems while accompanying them with greater acceptance by the stakeholders.

She aims to promote "living together" at the heart of the Rectorate's action to enable everyone to engage in the University's missions of teaching, research, and service to the community, by promoting the personal development and good working conditions of every member of the academic community.

The University of Geneva and the academic world as a whole face significant challenges. We must prepare future generations to adapt to climate change, emerging conflicts, as well as demographic, social, and technological challenges. By involving the whole community, Professor Leuba wishes to lead the University through these challenges.
