Tim Kallioinen
Informaticien / Software Engineer, DynaClim
Tim has been instrumental in modernizing and strengthening the DynaClim group’s computational tools. He has significantly improved their performance, restructured them into modular frameworks, and made them open source to enhance transparency, reproducibility, and community use.
He translated the Energy Balance Model (EBM) originally developed by Siddharth Bhatnagar from Python to Rust, substantially increasing its speed and efficiency. He also improved Posidonius, the group’s N-body code for modeling the tidal evolution of multi-planet systems, improving its performance.
In addition, Tim translated the previously closed-source ESPEM code from Fortran to Rust, releasing it as the open-source SPIROID, a tool designed to compute the tidal evolution of star–planet systems. He is currently working on coupling SPIROID with Redback, a planetary interior evolution code based on SPIDER/Aragog developed by Dan Bower, and with Riptide, a tidal response code derived from LPG-Tides developed by Gabriel Tobie.
