2 PhD positions in Inorganic/Organometallic Chemistry
Approximate start date: August/September 2025
The new group of Prof. Marina Perez-Jimenez at the University of Geneva invites applications for two fully funded PhD positions in the area of inorganic and organometallic chemistry. Perez-Jimenez’s group aims to synthesize heterometallic systems based on earth abundant metals (Fe, Ni, Mg, Zn) and develop strategies to functionalize bonds from inert molecules resulting from the silicone industry's chemical waste stream and transform them into value added products. Students working in the Perez-Jimenez’s group will develop skills in inorganic synthesis, work with air and moisture sensitive compounds (Schlenk line and glovebox techniques), isolate heterometallic complexes and reaction intermediates and characterize them by spectroscopic and crystallographic techniques, as well as mechanistic understanding and rational catalyst design.
The qualifications required are: Master and Bachelor degree in Chemistry, experience in synthetic chemistry is desirable but not required. The PhD students are expected to assist in teaching labs and assist other group members, as well as lead their own projects with independent thinking and present their results.
We are looking to form a diverse and motivated team with a dynamic, respectful and supportive environment. Any interested candidates can send: (1) Curriculum vitae; (2) contact details of two previous mentors/senior researchers; (3) motivation letter; to . For more details, please contact Prof. Marina Perez Jimenez. Deadline: applications will begin immediately and the positions will be open until they are filled.
