"Projet Afrique" (Project Africa), launched under the Vassalli rectorship in 2012, aims to coordinate the various initiatives of UNIGE researchers relating to Sub-Saharan Africa.
- 5 priority partners have been identified:
- Université Cheikh-Anta-Diop (Dakar)
- Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (Abidjan)
- Université Yaoundé I
- Addis Ababa University
- University of Cape Town
Framework agreements have been signed with these institutions, facilitating student and teacher exchanges as well as joint research projects.
- A Master's in African Studies was started in 2016, putting UNIGE at the forefront of French-speaking universities in this field.
- African afternoons have bee regularly organised in order to bring UNIGE's Africanist community together to discuss multidisciplinary themes, thereby facilitating inter-faculty exchanges.
