Transnational history looks at the interactions and interdependencies between contemporary societies, which today are studied through concepts such as integration, Americanisation and globalisation. In addition to expanding their knowledge, students will acquire the methodological, critical, analytical and writing skills needed to be an historian. The programme focuses on the history of transnational movements and networks, and the movement of experts, humanitarians, refugees and traders, as well as ideas, goods and capital. International organisations, philanthropic foundations and NGOs also play a key role in transnational history, since they are places in which new ways of thinking and acting are discussed and developed. This is the only programme of its kinds in the French-speaking world, and students will be able to make use of Geneva's major research archives. The programme is open to students who hold a Bachelor's degree with at least 60 credits in history (or knowledge deemed equivalent). Depending on their chosen specialisation, students may be required to have knowledge of languages other than Switzerland's national languages.

Except for disciplines involving modern languages (Spanish, Italian, English and German), where courses are offered in the relevant language.
