Why university-level continuing education?
Meeting the highest expectations
In a world of rapid economic and social change where skills need to be updated continually, university-level continuing education opens up new avenues of exploration and action in modern society. University research and our dialogue with key players in Geneva feed into our continuing education programmes, enriching professional practice and meeting both participants’ expectations and the needs of the job market. UNIGE stands out because of its intellectual heritage, humanist tradition, and multifaceted teaching and research.
A mark of quality
UNIGE offers first-rate education with an international outlook. We have a quality policy (in French) that covers undergraduate, graduate and continuing education initial and continuing education. The charter on strategy and managing continuing education sets out seven criteria that the programmes must fulfil relevance – partnership – interdisciplinarity – cooperation – appropriate pedagogy – validation – recognition – evaluation. Our continuing education programmes are flexible, innovative, adapted to the needs of professionals and developed with the academic input of the teaching staff in the relevant faculties and institutes. They are enhanced by the experience of people working in the field, who join the scientific committees and are involved in teaching.
Recognised training programmes
UNIGE’s continuing education programmes meet the requirements of internal, Swiss and European quality assurance frameworks. Since 2022, the University of Geneva has been accredited in accordance with the Federal Act on Funding and Coordination of the Swiss Higher Education Sector (HEdA). Some programmes are accredited by specific bodies, notably the AMBA. Others are recognised by federal bodies and/or professional associations. The Centre for Continuing and Distance Education supports the continuous improvement and accreditation of these training programmes.
