Objectives

  • Develop knowledge and skills related to the design, development, and implementation of education programs that are relevant and adapted to fragile contexts;
  • Implement the critical reflective skills necessary for the implementation of projects;
  • Develop methodological skills for conducting research and projects in the classroom and in the field of EiE.

Humanitarian staff engaged in managing education programs in the field; academic staff preparing to engage in education in emergencies.

Diploma awarded

The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in International Education and Research, specialization “Education in Emergency Situations” is delivered by the University of Geneva. It corresponds to 60 ECTS credits (European Credit and Transfer Accumulation System), i.e. 1800 hours of training. The degree is awarded to participants who have regularly participated in teaching and learning activities, and who have met the requirements of the modules and the thesis

  • 11'000 CHF for the MAS
  • 6'750 CHF for Modules 4 or 5, and 6, 7, 8 and thesis (2 validated CAS EiE)
  • 4'250 CHF for Modules 7, 8 and the thesis (3 validated CAS EiE)
  • Full or partial scholarships are available

Admission criteria

To apply for the  MAS in International Education and Research, specialization “Education in Emergencies,” you must have validated at least two Certificates of Advanced Studies (CAS) from the University of Geneva on education in emergencies: Education in Emergencies; Higher Education in Emergencies; Digital Learning in Emergencies.

Schedule

For each module, 1 weekend with speakers: Thursday: 5pm-8pm (Geneva time); Friday: 8:30am-5:30pm; Saturday: 8:30am-5:30pm

Education is a fundamental component of a humanitarian response: it contributes to the physical and psychological protection of children, their families and communities; it supports and promotes the continuation of child development and learning and helps prevent drop out; it presents an opportunity to improve the reach, quality and relevance of education, within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation. A key part of being able to initiate, design and implement timely and quality education in emergencies (EiE) responses is having the education/EiE staff with the right competencies to do so.

Pedagogical method

Blended learning/100% distance learning; students must actively participate in the proposed activities.
