What is mentoring at Horizon académique?

Mentoring is, above all, a relationship of mutual enrichment based on listening and equality.
It’s about learning from the program participants — from their unique journeys, professional backgrounds, or personal outlooks.
More concretely, it means being a support within the University or the University of Applied Sciences, and helping make these institutions more welcoming and open to the diversity brought by migration.

In other words:

  • Sharing information about your program or faculty, helping with course selection, and offering guidance through standard academic procedures.

  • Actively participating in the workshops, sessions, and events organized by the program for participants throughout the year (registration sessions, digital tools training, etc.).
This means accompanying participants during these activities, sharing your experience and ideas.
You can also organize workshops independently, in coordination with participants.

  • Taking part in ad hoc projects developed through short- or long-term collaborations such as podcasts, round tables, conferences, and more.

Training sessions

Why attend training sessions? Because becoming a mentor doesn’t just happen overnight!

To equip you with the tools needed to best support the participants, we organize training sessions and conferences throughout the year.
Speakers are active in the field of asylum and migration, helping you gain a deeper understanding of the related challenges and context

The Horizon académique Community

By becoming a mentor for the Horizon académique program, you join a community whose main goal is to give a helping hand to people from the asylum sector and others with similar needs.

Horizon académique strives to create synergy among its community members, so that by combining our skills, we can find ways to facilitate the integration of people from diverse backgrounds.
