What is Academic Horizons ?
Academic Horizons is an integration programme offered by the University of Geneva as part of the Agenda Intégration Suisse (AIS) and Cantonal Integration Programme (PIC). It is a bridge programme that prepares students for university. For one year, participants take classes and sit exams and can even earn ECTS credits, which can give them a head start on their studies. Programme participants can either resume their studies at one of these higher education institutions in Geneva: the University of Geneva (UNIGE), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES-SO Geneva), or the Graduate Institute (IHEID); or find another training programme better suited to their needs.
The programme is offered in partnership with the Bureau de l'intégration des étrangers du canton de Genève (BIE) and is supported by several private foundations.
Who is it for ?
The programme helps immigrants improve their professional prospects, specifically asylum seekers and refugees (with N, F, B or C-refugee permits), family reunification migrants with B permits and Swiss nationals who have returned from living abroad. Given the situation in Ukraine, the programme is now also accessible for people with a S permit.
What are the activities?
The four pillars of our programme are:
- Personal guidance to plan your studies and career
- Access to university courses
- Language and Integration classes
