Once Abroad
Final validation of study plan
Have your final study plan approved by your academic advisor in your host institution. It should be based on your host university's course catalogue.
A study plan established during your exchange application is usually based on the previous year's course catalogue and is therefore provisional.
Once you arrive at your host university, you should contact your academic advisor to check that your study plan is feasible and validate your final study plan.
When drafting your study plan, please refer to the course catalogue of your host university.
Announcing your arrival
In general, orientation sessions are held before the semester begins. Make sure to attend!
It is also recommended that you go to the international relations office of your host university to see if you registration is in order. You can also announce your arrival to the person in charge of exchanges in your host faculty or department.
For SEMP students, this will provide an opportunity to obtain signatures for your "Certificate of Attendance" and "Study Plan/Learning Agreement".
Changing the length of your stay
Under certain duly justified circumstances, you may be permitted to extend or cut short your exchange.
> Extending the duration of your exchange
If you wish to extend your stay at your host university you should contact the International Relations Office of your host universityto see if they are willing to welcome you for an additional semester.
If this is the case, you should submit a request to the International Relations Office at UNIGE and contact your academic advisor to prepare a study plan for the entire year.
Your study plan will then be validated by your academic advisors in Geneva and at your host university.
If you are entitled to a SEMP scholarship, you will receive the payment for the second semester once you have submitted the Learning Agreement/Study Plan.
> Shortening your stay
If you must cut short your stay at your host university, it is essential that you inform the International Affairs Office of UNIGE and of your host university.
For SEMP students: you must have your certificate of attendance signed by the international relations office of your host university. This document will calculate the duration of your exchange and specify the amount of the scholarship that you will need to return.
