Challenges & opportunities in Foundation Models: accelerating scientific discovery, explainability, efficiency and security

Date: 14 - 25 October 2024

Venue: Villa Boninchi

Organizers: T. Golling and S. Voloshynovskiy

The Geneva Institute for Theoretical Sciences (G.IST) is dedicated to fostering scientific brilliance. We invite esteemed scientists from around the globe to the picturesque shores of Lake Geneva, offering a perfect backdrop for in-depth discussions, brainstorming, and seminars. Our aim? To nurture the future of science by facilitating rich exchanges of knowledge and expertise.

The workshop will focus on foundation models, covering their theoretical aspects in vision and language, explainability, and applications in scientific discovery. The workshop will also cover their efficiency and security, aiming to enhance understanding and practical use of these advanced models.

At the heart of the G.IST lies interaction. By inviting both global and local UNIGE scientists, we foster an environment ripe for the exchange of innovative ideas on the above topics. Our esteemed guests will have the opportunity to present their research and share their passion with a wider audience of researchers and students on the UNIGE campus.

This year, the workshop will be preceded by an opening talk of Prof. Yann LeCun (Chief AI Scientist for Facebook AI Research (FAIR) and Silver Professor at New York University).
