How to apply

Diploma required

In accordance with Article 2 of the MUSE study Rules:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, economics, social sciences, international relations, medicine, law or any equivalent study direction. Applications by students from other study directions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. An additional course load  of 9 ECTS to 30 ECTS may be requested (as entrance requirement or as additional courses to be followed parallel to the Master’s programme).
  • HES students in disciplines related to environmental sciences: Additional training from 9 ECTS to 30 ECTS may be requested (co- or pre-requisite). 

Registration deadline

28 February

Entry into the master’s program takes place only once a year in September.

Holders of a degree from a university or other body of higher education in Switzerland or abroad

As of the beginning of January prepare your application file (= request for enrollment at UNIGE + Master’s programme admission file) by following the procedure indicated on the website of the Admissions Office from: http://www.unige.ch/admissions/sinscrire/procedure-immatriculation/

In summary:

  • Compile the required documents and complete the application for enrollment at the University of Geneva : https://www.unige.ch/admissions/englishCorner/procedure
  • Complete the Master’s admission form available at http://www.unige.ch/admissions/sinscrire/procedure-immatriculation/candidature-ma-doc/
  • Send all documents (registration and admission) by post to the Admissions Office before February 28th.
  • Once the application for enrollment has been accepted by the Students Office, the file is sent to the MUSE secretariat.
Former students of the UNIGE

All students must

  • Prepare an application package including: CV, cover letter, Bachelor’s degree transcripts and fill in the formular available online from January  to February 28th. Deadline  28 February.

Successful applicants will get an answer beginning of June.

Re-enroll using the online platform of the Admissions Office, admissions.unige.ch (1 June - 15 August).

Students studying at UNIGE during the semester preceding the MUSE programme

All students must

  • Prepare an application package including: CV, cover letter, Bachelor’s degree transcripts and fill in the formular available online from January  to February 28th. Deadline  28 February.

Successful applicants (answer provided beginning of June) must fill the relevant registration form

  • Case No. 1: Students completing their Bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Science must fill the form concerning continuation of their studies. This form is available from the Student Secretariat of the Science faculty which will send it directly to the MUSE Student Secretariat.
  • Case No. 2: Graduate students from another Faculty of University of Geneva must switch faculties and enroll in the Faculty of Science using the online platform of the Admissions Office, admissions.unige.ch (1 July-15 August).

Selection of candidates

All applications accepted for registration by the Admissions Office are examined and evaluated by the MUSE Selection Committee according to the following criteria: 

  • Complete application package
  • English language skills at least at level B1
  • French language skills at least at level B1
  • Clear motivation to study environmental science
  • Intra- or extracurricular experience related to environmental science and/or sustainable development: internship, short course or relevant activity during civil service, topic of Bachelor’s thesis, relevant memberships in associations, political activity, etc.

Candidates with no intra-curricular or extracurricular experience are nevertheless invited to apply. Failure to meet this criterion does not automatically imply exclusion. Contact person for any questions regarding the selection criteria: Nicole Efrancey Dao
