Completed projects

Physicochemical and toxicological aspects guided mapping of urban landfill and mining activities for evaluating of environmental and human health risks in Sub-Sahara Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

This project consisting on the assessment of soil and water quality in order to evaluate human and environmental risks related to waste management as well as abandoned mine activities. One of important and holistic approaches of the project consists on the mapping of uncontrolled urban landfills and abandoned mines relatively to the potential impacts which will be revealed from the analytical tasks. Data base and mapping are performed by GIS, according to the analytical results. The contacts with autochthone population, local government and mining operators are performing in order to discuss the eventual application of mining effluent treatment techniques and the potential of bioremediation process for abandoned mines.
