Ilaria Masiero is a researcher in the economics of language at the Economics, Languages and Education Research Group (ELF) at the University of Geneva. Her work focuses mainly on the projects RAMAL (Representations, Attitudes and Motivations in Language Learning) and GLAD (The Governance of Language Diversity).

She joined the élf team in 2021 as a postdoctoral researcher, after having worked on the APSIS project (Advantages of Multilingualism in Switzerland: Individuals and Society).

Ilaria holds a PhD in the economics of crime from Fundação Getulio Vargas, a Master’s degree in Competition Economics from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, and a Master’s degree in Economics from Bocconi University (Italy). Trained in political science, she has a strong background in social sciences as well as in econometrics and quantitative methods.

Before joining the élf Observatory, Ilaria was a researcher at the University of Birmingham and worked as a consultant and economic researcher in the private sector.
