Submit an article
L’Enseignement Mathématique primarily publishes research articles across various mathematical fields, with particular attention given to papers that are at least partially accessible to a broad mathematical audience.
The journal is published by the European Mathematical Society (EMS).
Submission Guidelines:
Authors must submit their articles electronically in PDF format, following the instructions below, to the following email address: .
Articles should be written in English or, in exceptional cases, in French.
The following information is required at the time of submission:
- Author(s) name(s) and email address(es)
- Complete postal address(es)
- Corresponding author’s name
- 2020 Mathematics Subject Classification
- Keywords describing the article’s topic
- Authors are encouraged to indicate which editor is most closely related to their article’s subject matter.
By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Peer Review Process
L’Enseignement Mathématique follows a single-blind peer review process conducted by external reviewers selected by the editorial board.
Author Instructions
Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their LaTeX source files to facilitate typesetting. Once an article is definitively accepted, authors must send all source files, macros, and corresponding PostScript or PDF files to .
Upon acceptance for publication, authors are required to:
- Download the LEM.zip;
- Follow the formatting instructions included in the zip file or provided on our publisher’s website;
- Submit the article in structured LaTeX, using the template and style file from the zip, along with a PDF version.
The article will then be forwarded to the European Mathematical Society, which will provide authors with proofs for final corrections and an electronic copy of the published article.
Open Access Policy
L’Enseignement Mathématique operates under the Subscribe to Open (S2O), model, meaning that articles can be published as open access. No submission or article processing fees are required. Open-access articles are licensed under CC-BY 4.0.
Articles not immediately published as open access benefit from « green open access». This means that the authors’ final version, before publisher editing, may be deposited in institutional repositories, author's personal web pages, or other archives without embargo. These articles become freely accessible—while remaining under copyright—after five years. Authors can refer to the Digital Access Conditions for more details on licensing and repository policies.
All journal volumes dating back to 1899 (and at least five years post-publication) are freely available via the Swiss Electronic Academic Library Service ( E-Periodica.).
