Reconsidering  the modes of evaluation of academic performance is crucial to support open science. This goes in line with the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), whose signatories commit to avoiding the use of journal impact factors and to preferring a more qualitative evaluation. Such a endeavour goes beyond the strict framework of Open Science, but should make it possible - among other things - to enhance the practices of researchers in terms of FAIR data and Open Access and, thus, to foster cultural change towards sharing of scientific knowledge. In this context, University of Geneva signed the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment in early 2023, which brings together nearly 500 organizations worldwide.
