Public Affairs Unit
The Public Affairs Unit supports the Rectorate and assists the University in the design, deployment, and management of its public‑relations activities, particularly with political authorities and the public administration. The Unit contributes to addressing political, legislative, and societal issues that have implications for the institution and helps foster informed dialogue between the academic and political spheres.
Political monitoring and follow‑up
The Unit conducts regular monitoring of matters addressed by the Grand Conseil and the Federal Parliament and informs the University’s governing bodies of relevant developments. Working in close coordination with the Rectorate, it manages the University’s relations with cantonal and federal executive and legislative authorities, assists in preparing responses to inquiries from political bodies, and supports the preparation of parliamentary hearings. In collaboration with stakeholders across Switzerland’s education, research, and innovation landscape, it also identifies and prepares the University’s positions on public policies and popular votes that affect its missions.
Societal issues and science–policy interface
The Unit coordinates the University’s responses to cantonal and federal consultations and contributes to managing sensitive or politically salient topics with an impact on the institution. It facilitates relationships between researchers, public‑sector bodies, and political actors, with the aim of strengthening the use of scientific knowledge in decision‑making processes.
Public relations and protocol
The Unit is responsible for defining and implementing the institution’s public‑relations strategy. In close collaboration with the Communications Service, it supports the organisation of official events and manages the Rectorate’s contact network. Finally, it advises University bodies on matters of protocol.
