Biography:

Alexander Biewald is originally from Munich, Bavaria.

He began studying physics at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München (LMU) in 2009. In 2014, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree. For his thesis, he worked in the group of Professor Eberhard Riedle (LMU) on oxygen- and water-free solvents for ultrafast single-molecule dynamic experiments. In 2017, he obtained his Master of Science degree in the group of Professor Achim Hartschuh in the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy at LMU. His research focused on nonlinear photophysical dynamics in perovskite quantum dots.

He continued in the same group as a PhD student, where he studied the photophysical properties of novel energy conversion materials. His research included the investigation of various material systems such as covalent organic frameworks (COFs), perovskites, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) using microscopic techniques to gain insights into the temporal and diffusive dynamics of their photoexcited states. He successfully defended his thesis in October 2024.

In 2025, he joined the research group of Professor Takuji Adachi at the Université de Genève to develop a new microscopic dynamic light scattering (DLS) system.
