[ This study was highlighted in Synfacts. ]
Simple ligands, catalyst, and conditions: The combination of readily prepared unsymmetrical pyridine–imine ligands and [CpRu(CH3CN)3][PF6] (Cp=C5H5) affords regio- and enantioselective Carroll rearrangements (see scheme; b/l= branched-to-linear ratio). This reaction represents the first example of Ru-catalyzed enantioselective CC bond-forming allylic substitution.
