Workshop Outcomes
The Advancing Volcanic Hazards in Early Warnings for All workshop, held at WMO Headquarters in Geneva from 7–9 July 2025, gathered over 100 experts from volcano observatories, UN agencies, international organizations, disaster risk authorities, and civil society. The workshop’s objective was to accelerate the integration of volcanic hazards and risk within the UN Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative and related global early warning frameworks.
This page presents the two key outcome documents of the workshop:
1. Consensual Summary
This document captures the workshop’s shared conclusions, priority recommendations, and agreed next steps across the four EW4All pillars: Risk Knowledge, Monitoring & Forecasting, Warning Dissemination, and Preparedness & Response. It reflects areas of convergence across participants, highlighting common priorities for action at global, regional, and national levels.
2. Breakout Session Summary
This summary brings together the outcomes of the workshop’s group discussions. Participants were divided into eight themed groups (each led by a facilitator and rapporteur) to explore specific topics and develop recommendations. The themes, adapted from insights gathered at a similar workshop held after IAVCEI 2023, covered: Relationships; Governance (in-country); User Needs; Best Operations Practices; Multi-hazard Capacity Building – Roadmaps (Guatemala & Ecuador, Spanish); Multi-hazard Capacity Building (English); Innovations; International Strategies.
For each theme, the summary provides a concise overview of the State of Play, Key Challenges & Opportunities, and Recommendations, including examples of good practice, capacity gaps, and potential pathways for collaboration.
Together, these documents offer a consolidated view of the workshop outcomes, from high-level consensus to the detailed insights of expert discussions, and are intended to support continued collaboration between the volcanology community and EW4All partners.
