Fund an Open Access publication
There are various sources of funding for the Open Access publication costs of articles, theses, books and book chapters.
Articles
The flowchart opposite (also available as a PDF file) sets out the various funding options for an Open Access article, and their conditions.
Please note that the SNSF has announced that it will will cap the maximum publication fee for an article at CHF 3,500 from 2027 onwards. It will no longer cover fees that are higher than this, not even partially.
Books, theses and book chapters
For funding Open Access books, theses and book chapters, the flowchart opposite (also available in PDF) summarises the various options available. Due to the complexity of the situation, a more exhaustive document (in French only) was prepared.
Please note that, starting in 2027, among other changes, the SNSF "will only fund OA books that are a direct result of SNSF-funded research", excepting for theses.
